Super Mario 64 is set inside Princess Peach’s castle, which Mario finds deserted. Leaping into paintings hanging on the walls, Mario launches himself through the portals into different worlds. The player controls Mario and moves him through worlds packed with action, power stars, and villains, with the primary goal of rescuing Princess Peach. To achieve the primary goal, the player must pilot Mario through obstacle courses while collecting coins, warding off villains, interacting with other characters, and gathering power stars and power-ups that give him special abilities.
