Pikmin 2 Review
Pikmin 2 is an action and strategy game that was developed and published by Nintendo. It was released in March 2017 for Wii U with significant improvements on the original Pikmin edition.
Pikmin 2 has poor graphics. One of the main reasons for this is the monotonous color scheme in most of the scenes. Another cause of this low rating is the crowding of the animated characters and props, leaving awkward bare patches all over the background.
One good thing about the game’s graphics design is the somewhat decent quality and clarity of the Pikmin, their leaders and other objects like flowers, bridges, and rocks.
Pikmin 2 has a platform game design with numerous action scenes and challenges that require sound strategy to overcome. It’s set on an unknown planet and follows the adventures of Captain Olimar and Louie. The two characters each lead a group of Pikmin on different exploits to find treasure and fight enemies.
The Pikmin are color-coded, with each type having its own unique skill set. This version of the game has three new Pikmin: the poison-resistant white one, the super-strong purple one, and the all-powerful Bulbmin. The main aim of the game is to collect as much treasure as possible before sundown. You also have to ensure that you keep your Pikmin safe from different predators.
The game supports a co-op multiplayer mode. One player controls Captain Olimar and his squad while the other controls Louie. There is also a competitive mode where you and a friend can compete to see who collects the four yellow marbles fastest.
Pikmin 2 was released for Wii U gadgets including the Remote + Nunchuck, the Remote Plus + Nunchuck and GamePad. The devices make controlling the characters easy and precise.
You guide the Pikmin’ direction by dragging the cursor across the screen. You can also use the controller to initiate mass attacks or send one off in the opposite direction for special tasks. All these factors ensure that your gaming experience is above all else convenient.
Replay Value: 3.0
Pikmin 2 has average replayability. The main reason for this is the game’s linear plot. The lack of alternative ending makes it predictable and not much fun to play again.
One feature that saves the situation here is the presence of multiple gameplay options. The choice of Pikmin you use in particular affects the outcome of different challenges, increasing replay value. Something else that helps is the numerous collectible treasures.
Pikmin 2 is a very entertaining game. You will have a lot of fun playing as the commander of your very own army of little plant-creatures. Here, it is your wits and ability to strategize that will determine how successful you are in the game. The main downside is the shoddy graphics. However, where it lacks in clarity and animation quality, it makes up for it with solid gameplay and precise controls.
