Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Review
Mario has been the star of the show since the franchise was launched. This fourth edition of the dynamic duo’s series changes things a little giving Luigi a more central role. The game was developed by AlphaDream and Good-Feel for Nintendo and here is what it has to offer.
It is one of the best Mario World releases as far as graphics are concerned. The game combines the best qualities of 3D and 2D technology. The background and platforms feature low-quality 3D imagery whereas the Mario brothers, their allies, and their enemies have a pixelated 2-dimensional aesthetic. It gives the game some kind of realism while staying true to the old-school arcade style, which the franchise is known for
Mario and Luigi: The Dream Team is an adventure and action puzzle-style video game. It has a very interesting plot split between reality and Luigi’s dreams. The game aims to go through the obstacle-filled platforms, solve different puzzles and save Princess Peach from Bowser, who is the game’s main antagonist.
On your way to rescue the princess, you have to complete multiple challenges to progress through stages. You will also have to fight your enemies including Bowser and Antasma. As the game is RPG, you also have the option of playing in either Luigi’s dream world or in the game’s real world for variety in challenges and scenes. In a nutshell, the gameplay is great with a well-developed storyline that will make you want to keep going to see how it all ends. The new and exciting world opened up by Luigi’s subconscious is also something to look forward to in this edition.
The game is designed for handheld Nintendo 3DS. The device allows you to play using all the buttons, pads as well as the touchscreen interface.
While playing, you control Mario and Luigi’s walking, running, jumping and fighting. The combat scenes have a turn-based design, which is simple yet highly effective as well as an entertaining challenge. Overall, the game has great control options for an engaging and enjoyable gaming experience.
Replay Value: 3
The game has low replay value because there is a lack of alternative endings of the plot. The puzzles also become easier to solve with repeated tries at the already completed levels. However, there is one saving grace. The reason is that of the jumping and running across, above and below platforms and obstacles won`t get you bored quickly. As a result, you enjoy the game time despite knowing how it ends.
The unique thing about the Mario & Luigi: Dream Team game is the focus on Luigi and the development of this awesome character that has been in the background for a long time. The design, in general, is also something worth celebrating as it makes the game exciting and full of action. Finally, the interesting storyline will keep you sufficiently entertained making it more than a simple adventure and role-playing game.
