The Sudden Update to Super Mario Party Is Worth the Wait
It was strange to see Super Mario Party getting down to no attention from the developers after the release, while other Mario games for Nintendo Switch and not only enjoyed a lot of it. Especially given that it was multiplayer from the start. Finally, in 2021, with almost no advertising, the game received a major update – the first one ever, enabling more online options.
Now it has three online modes that require Nintendo Online subscription and the game itself. Mario Party mode is the same as it is in offline modes, with up to 4 players in one game. Partner Party is the 2v2 mode. Finally, Free Play is focused on mini games only, so you don’t even need the board to play the minis you prefer. You can choose Friends Match, only matching with your Nintendo friends, or Private Game to invite only those you want; otherwise you will be matched with random players.
Local multiplayer supports both Mario Party and Partner Party modes, but it requires symmetry. For example, in Partner Party mode the game lets in two duos (two consoles for two players each) or four single players with their own consoles each. The update is free and available to all Super Mario Party players.
