Imagine you are a prisoner and you try to escape this hell place. This is what you need to do while playing The Escapists 2. The game has long won the love of players on different platforms, and now the game has moved to the Nintendo Switch, so when you download the Escapists 2 not only can you play at home but also on the road.
The visual part in the Escapists 2 is much better than in the first game. A multiplayer mode has been added as well. The Escapists 2 looks quite impressive with a bunch of fine details of prison life. Thanks to the new engine, the characters have gained individuality and ceased to be just a bunch of pixels. With the release on Switch, the game did not lose any of its mechanics nor were the graphics changed.
The game starts with two friends relaxing on a beautiful beach when one tells the other how easy it is to get free, even from the gloomiest casemates. Then training begins where each step is accompanied by funny comments. The game starts when the police catch the character right on the beach.
A nice bonus is the creation of the character. You can choose from three hundred types with changeable appearance. During the game, you will need to follow the routine – there will be compulsory breakfasts, lunches and dinners, exercises, showers, and looking for work. All these actions are strictly limited in time. To do everything, you need to look at the clock in the upper right corner of the screen.
Many of your cellmates are marked with a coin or exclamation mark. In the former case, you can buy or sell something. In the latter case, you can complete the task. There are different quests, but they all correspond to prison topics.
The control of the game is clear and easy due to its availability on Switch. According to the Escapists 2 review, when the game is already up and running, there are no complaints about it at all. The controls are convenient, everything works well, and you can easily read the text from the Switch screen without any problems.
The most significant loss of the Switch-version is the lack of the regime for creating your own prison in the game. On the PC, it was possible with its help to extend the gaming life of the project to infinity, but the Switch-option doesn’t have this tool for now.
Replay Value: 4.5
The Escapists 2 is a very appealing game, and you will be impressed by it already after a few hours of play. Cute-looking pixel men tell amazingly dramatic stories when photo-realistic graphics are not necessary.
You can plan the escape together with your friends. Even in the very first prison, it will take hours to think through all the nuances because besides this, you need to engage in social work, go to the library, and exercise in the gym. Without upgrading the character, you won’t be able to carry a lot of weight and build many things.
The Bottom Line
If you love challenging puzzles with a lot of solutions and a minimum of hints, then you should definitely download the Escapists 2. The sequel offered a lot of noticeable innovations, including an updated visual component, an increased number of created items, and support for multiplayer. But some elements remained ill-conceived, and some of the new actions cannot be done alone.
The Escapists 2 is the best simulator of prisoners’ life available today. This is an excellent, thoughtful game that is deep, non-linear, has a great sense of humor, and is rich in possibilities.
Pros : Surprisingly lively characters;
Humor and satire;
A variety of prisons;
Multiplayer game opportunity.
Cons : Some won’t appreciate pixel graphics;
The interface is not perfect, the dialog boxes crawl over each other.
