There is beauty in simplicity when it comes to video games, and this is what Bit Dungeon+ offers. Here is what you can expect from the arcade-style game that was released in 2016.
The graphics in this game are pretty average and basically what you would expect from an old-school arcade video game. It features heavily pixelated characters and backgrounds that are severely lacking detail. It also has a monotonous color scheme with many dull tones and the occasional flash of color from fireballs, collectibles, and big bosses. One good thing about the graphics is how well organized each level is.
Bit Dungeon+ is an action video game with an arcade style. Your character wakes up to find himself imprisoned in a dungeon. He must find a way out and track down his friend who was also kidnapped.
Every stage features a new cell with different enemies and challenges to overcome. Once you have defeated all the demons, you get a key that unlocks the next randomly generated dungeon. Some of these lead you to the big boss. These particular enemies require that you use special fight sequences to defeat them. Most phases of the game also present a variety of collectibles including weapons. The new objective makes the gameplay more interesting. On top of that, Bit Dungeon+ supports 2-player couch co-op to boost the fun.
The game also features a performance grading system. You earn points based on your attack and defense skills. There is also the possibility of losing points as a result of damage to your utilities or injuries after unsuccessful blocking.
The main drawback with Bit Dungeon+ is how repetitive the gameplay gets.
Bit Dungeon+ supplies you with a basic set of controls. You can use the various weapons in your arsenal to launch attacks on your enemies. The game also allows precise defense either through the shield or by simply dodging projectiles.
However, the game’s simplicity works against the controls by limiting your fight sequence options. This means you do not get to enjoy the full potential of your controller of choice.
Replay Value: 3.0
The game has pretty average replay value. The collectibles and unlockable dungeons are mainly to thank for this. Bit Dungeon+ also has multiple alternative endings that you will want to explore every time you play it. One thing that negatively affects the game’s replay value is the repetitive nature of the gameplay. You are always moving from room to room dodging arrows or fireballs and waving your short sword at opponents.
Bit Dungeon is a simple game with a lot of potentials to be addictive. There is just something about destroying the underworld enemies that will have you coming back for more. It does not exactly have the best graphics or elaborate gameplay out there. However, the engaging combat scenes and the presence of collectibles will more than makeup for these deficits. Just get your copy and have fun with your friends trying to escape the dungeons.
If you like simple arcade-style video games with that old-school pixelated feel, then you will enjoy Bit Dungeon+.
Pros : Multiple collectibles.
You can save your latest level.
It supports couch co-op.
Cons : The storyline is poorly developed.
