Scribblenauts Showdown is a game that offers a great combination of action and brain challenges designed to tap into your creativity reserves. It was created as a collaborative effort between WB Games and Shiver Entertainment.
The graphics are a little disappointing, especially for a 2018 release. The animated characters, in particular, have the same simple and repetitive look. The screen layout is also a bit clustered which makes it an eyesore, especially with smaller PC screens.
The graphics saving grace for this game is its high resolution. This guarantees image clarity which is complemented by the brilliant use of color.
Scribblenauts Showdown has a party-game sort of gameplay design. This means that it is essentially a collection of multiple mini-games with different challenges and puzzles for your character to deal with. The gameplay allows you to conjure into existence whatever you think of. These objects help you solve different problems and gain points in the mini-games. Just think of a word, type it, and it will materialize on the screen. With the vast database of more than 35,000 objects to choose from, you can have anything – from the Eiffel Tower to a flying pirate.
In addition to the fixed mini-games, Scribblenauts also comes with a Sandbox mode, which is very similar to the original series installations. Here, anything can happen with eight different levels full of surprises. On this mode, you also get to create your characters and objects beforehand to use during the challenges. You can also conjure up objects as the game continues.
The best controls feature with this game is the flexibility of the multiplayer mode. You can choose to collaborate with your friends in the party and sandbox modes. Also, you have the option of playing against each other with the Showdown mode. The numerous object possibilities also make the game great in terms of control as you can customize your experience however you wish.
Replay Value: 5
With more than 35,000 objects to choose from, it is safe to say that this game has great replay value. The challenges and levels do not change a lot. However, your ability to customize the game by choosing different items is what keeps things interesting. The support of both single and multiplayer modes also contributes a lot to the game’s replayability.
This game has deviated from the script commonly followed by other releases from the Scribblenauts series in terms of gameplay. However, the new design is amazing and has a lot to offer, especially regarding gameplay. The Showdown edition gives a refreshing new take on the classic which also increases the replay value. You can, therefore, rest assured that it is a worthy investment.
If you have an active imagination, then this game is just perfect for you.
