Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was originally released in 2004 by Nintendo EAD Tokyo. In 2016, a version was created for Wii U with a few added features to make the game more enjoyable.
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat has a well-done mix of 2D and 3D graphics. They include high clarity images, character details that are easy to distinguish as well as very realistic jungle-theme backgrounds. The graphics create the vibe of an actual jungle, which greatly complements the gameplay. However, it is not as perfect and lifelike as many modern versions of adventure and action video games.
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is a platform and puzzle-style video game. It features numerous levels set in different surroundings. Each has a set of platforms with various obstacles for Donkey Kong to face. Getting to the end of every level allows the character access to the subsequent ones that are significantly more challenging. This simple gameplay makes the game fun and very engaging.
In addition to completing the level, you also need to collect beats, which you get by grabbing as many bananas as possible on the course before finishing it. The bananas come in handy as health boosters, especially when fighting serious enemies.
The final level of the game is probably the most exciting of them all. Here, you get to face-off one of the many different major jungle villains. These include elephants, gorillas, and many others. Each opponent has their weaknesses, which you must learn and exploit to win the game.
This version of the game requires Wii U devices including the GamePad, Wii Remote+Nunchuck controller, and the Wii Remote Plus+Nunchuch controller. These may not be as fun as Bongo Drums in the older version, but they are more accurate and easier to use. They also offer access to new weapons like nunchucks, which were not available in the 2004 release.
The game is generally involving since you control the character’s movements ranging from simple jumps to cool backflips.
Replay Value: 5
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat has numerous alternative endings. In each of them, you get to meet and fight different Big Boss characters. Each side-storyline gives you something new to look forward to every time you play the game thus significantly increasing the replay value. The high action turn-based fight scenes and the numerous challenging platform puzzles will also make you eager to give the game another try after completing it.
Donkey Kong Jungle Beats for Wii U might have taken the Bongo Drums, but it made up for it with the many new amazing features. Therefore, if you were wondering whether or not it is worth looking into, then all your doubts should be settled with this review. It is not a perfect game by a long shot, but it is something that will keep you challenged and entertained for a while.
Have fun fighting for the right to be the king of the jungle with this action-packed Wii U Nintendo game.
